Things I don’t like: “Female” vs “Woman”

It seems we have lost the word “female”.

She is the first “woman” president or the first “woman” physicist.

Apart from the fact that we still feel the need to point out that someone is a woman, I’m pretty sure that if we were talking about a man in a particular role, we would not call him a “man” president or a “man” doctor.

Can’t we bring back the “female” if we need a descriptor to specify gender?

PS A future rant might just feature the annoying inequality of “Mr Men” and “Little Miss …” (do the female characters have a designation of “Women”?)!
